The trip
The quintessentially perfect, laidback family holiday in one of Australia’s most pristine locations.
The experience
Lord Howe Island is a World Heritage-listed paradise located 660 km off the north coast of NSW and less than two hours’ flight from Sydney. A holiday here is relaxing and unhurried, allowing families plenty of time to slow down and reconnect. There’s no mobile phone reception on the island and very dodgy internet, and everyone gets around by bike or on foot. Lord Howe is an idyllic location for fishing enthusiasts as well as snorkellers and scuba divers. Other watersports include surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, kite surfing and windsurfing.
You can do glass-bottomed boat trips on the lagoon to see colourful coral and 100-year-old turtles, and snorkel around shipwrecks. Lord Howe is also ideal for walkers and hikers with breathtaking views, natural forest and the famous twin peaks, Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird, which can be scaled on guided full-day hikes. It’s also a birdwatchers’ nirvana, and the only known nesting spot of the providence petrel.
Pinetrees Lodge is the perfect location for your Lord Howe Island family holiday, where old-fashioned hospitality is the order of the day, and the food is sublime. Choose your scenic picnic spot each morning and the team will pack a delicious barbecue or picnic lunch and deliver it to your “destination”.
