Vietnam, south to north
The trip
In just a week you can experience the highlights of Vietnam, from Saigon in the south to charming Hoi An in the centre and Hanoi in the north.
The experience
Your Vietnam family holiday stars in the capital Ho Chi Minh City – the former Saigon – a bustling city of 8 million inhabitants and roughly 4 million motorbikes. Visit the markets, eat wonderful street food, explore landmarks such as the colonial Notre Dame cathedral and Gustav Eiffel’s Central Post Office. A highlight of Saigon is the fascinating, and sometimes confronting, War Remnants Museum which tells the story of the American War from the Vietnamese perspective.
Fly to Danang in the centre of the country and spend two days in charming Hoi An, famed for its artisans, tailors and nearby beachside resorts. Continue north, flying to Hanoi where you’ll spend a day exploring including a walking tour of the Old Town, the Museum of Ethnology and see a show at the water puppet theatre. Be sure to visit a bia hai stall for the fresh local beer, and have a steaming bowl of fragrant pho for breakfast. The next day you head to Halong Bay where you’ll board the Glory Legend to sail around this scenic bay.
